The Brussels prosecutor’s office said the suspected perpetrator, who was arrested, is a 30-year-old man named Charif HA. Police assure the public this is not a terrorist attack.

Three people were injured, one seriously, in a knife attack on Monday in Brussels Stib Schuman metro station, located a few dozen meters from the headquarters of the European Commission and the European Council. The police did not comment on the motives of the 30-year-old assailant, who began stabbing people around 6 P.M. when commuters were making their way home from work.
The federal prosecutor’s office indicated that the motive “at this stage” has not yet been determined. However, according to a source close to the case, the person arrested “was already known for a psychiatric history” and resides in Schaerbeek.

According to Sudinfo news, the 30-year-old man threatened to stab random passers-by in the metro station, which caused a real movement of panic. Several minutes before the attack, an unidentified individual acting suspiciously allegedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” in a Stib tram metro station, which was reported to the police. But when the police arrived on site, the suspect had disappeared. It is not known at this stage whether or not it is the same individual who was arrested in the Schuman station.
Witness Reports
A man armed with a knife has sown fear. “My wife saw a man armed with a knife on the metro train heading for the city center,” explained one commuter.
“Everyone was running around; they were screaming too.” According to another witness, who was going to take his train at the time of the events, a man tried to attack a woman with a knife as she was getting off the metro train.
According to several travelers, who testified to the facts on social networks, one of the victims was a young boy injured in the knife attack. Another witness reports that the suspect tried to continue his attack by running into the station and attacking a woman with a stroller.
