Protests, Controversy, and Radical Agendas: Canada's Fight Against SOGI Policies and the Risk of Dangerous Alliances (Exclusive Videos)

RAIR Foundation visited Parliament Hill in Ottawa to cover the second annual demonstration, a protest surrounded by controversy. The demonstration was against Canada’s widely criticized SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) policies, which have been implemented by the government and in schools nationwide.

According to one protestor, these highly controversial policies are sometimes introduced as early as kindergarten at the Ottawa Carleton District School Board.

The Controversial C-4 Law: Criminalizing Dissent

For those unfamiliar, the Canadian government, led by embattled Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, passed a law called C-4, the anti-Conversion therapy law. This law criminalizes any parent or adult who tries to dissuade a child from undergoing chemical or surgical procedures that can permanently alter their body. These procedures often leave the child sterile and, in many cases, lead to a wide range of serious medical complications, all under the guise of “trans-affirming care.”

The bill itself is deceptively named. Almost to the point of Orwell’s Newspeak.

Conversion Therapy

Conversion Therapy was the questionable practice of some Christian groups to try and turn gay people straight by uncomfortable measures. Often holding them near hostage for some time, like a cult deprogrammer. Apparently, sometimes it worked. But nonetheless, it was a questionable practice.

This bill, C-4, was named “The Anti-Conversion Therapy” bill. The idea is to justify criminalizing parents or others who tried to talk children out of having themselves mutilated by drugs or surgeries before they are even old enough to get a tattoo.

Unexpected Encounters: TRANTIFA and Gays Against Groomers

And an interesting thing happened early on before the speeches started on that subject.

A young woman in a mask with rainbows on her sandwich board signs tried to join the rally. She was escorted out by security, who assumed she was part of the large and assertive communist counter-protest planned for across the street—a group locally referred to as ‘TRANTIFA’.

However, a few minutes later, one of the demonstration organizers asked if I would speak with her. She returned to the rally and had insightful points to share. Though not a member, she was ideologically aligned with the group Gays Against Groomers. One of her key arguments was that transitioning individuals who, left alone, would grow into normal, healthy gay adults were instead subjected to what she viewed as a brutal form of conversion therapy.

Key Speakers: Dr. Ann Gillies and Alarming Revelations

Dr. Ann Gillies, a pediatrician based in Ottawa and author of books critical of gender theory, covered several key points in her speech. She described gender theory as part of a Marxist agenda. She highlighted the severe consequences for individuals undergoing gender transition procedures, stating that the outcomes are often devastating and, in some cases, fatal.

Dr. Gillies also shared a significant revelation: a new study shows that individuals who have undergone gender transitioning are developing homicidal ideation, meaning they have fantasies about murdering others. While it is known that depressed individuals may experience suicidal thoughts, this study suggests that those who undergo “gender reassignment” are at risk of developing both suicidal and homicidal ideation.

This could explain a few events in the news in the past few years.

A Shift in Attendance: Where Were the Supporters?

Last year’s march saw many thousands of people in Ottawa at the demonstration and across Canada. RAIR has extensive coverage of it here.

Overall, last year’s event was a great success in terms of attendance. TRANTIFA also had a large and angry presence, and the police protection was major and, fortunately, also very effective.

This year, fewer than 100 people were estimated to be on Parliament Hill for the demonstration against SOGI.

One of the organizers explained to RAIR that both Action for Canada, a pro-Israel and pro-Jewish group, and Laura Lynn Tyler Thompson distanced themselves from the event, which could explain the lower turnout of supporters this year. The organizer added, “They disavowed the march and encouraged their thousands of followers not to attend.”

Concerns over Radical Ties: Kamel El-Cheikh and Anti-Israel Links

Their concerns appear to stem from the involvement of the principal organizer, Muslim Kamel El-Cheikh, and others who were potentially linked to radical anti-Israel and anti-Jewish marches across Canada. In a video released by Thompson, she explains that Kamel El-Cheikh believes ‘Hamas and Hezbollah are freedom fighters, that Israel is the evil occupier,’ and has also made statements about ‘how the Jews are evil and Hamas are good.’

It could also be that the demonstration was scheduled from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on a Friday, which might make it more difficult for most working people to attend.

TRANTIFA’s Presence: Fewer Protestors but Continued Disruption

TRANTIFA did have a presence, though, but nothing like last year. Maybe 60 of them showed up to shout and scream angrily at the protestors, often to the tune of Seven Nation Army, and one person quite audibly using the famous opera tune, La donna è mobile.

Jack Fonseca: The Ideological and Statistical Consequences of Gender Theory

One of the speakers was Jack Fonseca. He is one of the principal people organizing the largest march and demonstrations in Canada every year for life and against Abortion.

Jack focused on both the philosophical/ideological issues of Critical Gender theory behind all these laws and policies and some hard statistics about their consequences. These are not trivial statistics.

Those who have undergone cross-sex hormones and or surgeries have a dramatically increased risk of suicide.

That cross-sex hormones are often administered to pre-pubescent children and have a tremendous negative effect on the brain, cognition, and mood. In fact it causes children’s brain volume to decrease.

Some at ten years old get talked into medications that will permanently sterilize them. One can make the case that informed consent for this consequence is not possible with a ten-year-old child.

Jack also describes the curious shift in schools from cerebral development to sexual indoctrination across school boards and grades. This has led to a falling standard of achievement and learning in all the subjects that one would expect a school actually to teach. Fonseca claims that the Public School system has now become a “Public School system” because the focus has shifted so much towards sexual matters and away from the basics like science, math, and general education.

One of the speakers was a well-known pastor from Aylmer Ontario, who became somewhat famous during the Covid years for refusing to shut down his church.

Pastor Henry Hildebrandt: Standing Against Government Overreach

Pastor Henry Hildebrandt was actually fined for obeying all the laws at one point, preaching from the front steps of his church. At the same time, the congregation was in their own cars—all within the COVID regulations—but he was fined for it anyway. The RAIR story on that is here.

Below is a short segment of his speech at the anti-SOGI demo on the 20th.

Pastor Hildebrandt leads a Christian congregation in the town of Aylmer, Ontario. The members of his Christian sect are quite identifiable from the style of clothes they wear.

RAIR Foundation spoke to a member of a similar congregation from Ohio who had come to this event in Ottawa and to speak at another of Pastor Hildebrandt’s events in Montreal.

RAIR asked him how he would compare Christian eschatology or end-times prophecies to current events today.

The answer is likely not surprising.

As is tradition, every demonstration has a point in which the participants march around several blocks of the city with signs and chants.

A Counter Tactic from the Past: TRANTIFA Drowns Out the March

In this case, a curious thing happened. The TRANTIFA counter-demonstrators managed to get in front of the marchers against SOGI and drown out their messaging with personal amplifiers and signs, so to a casual observer, one might think this was entirely pro-transcritical gender theory.

This was a common tactic in the 1960s when leftists would infiltrate a conservative or non-leftist demonstration on an issue and try to start chants within the crowd that had opposite messaging. Sometimes, they would play tapes of a crowd doing the chant so that participants thought it was what was required of them.

In this case, it was just marching out front and shouting with banners. All those who showed up to protest SOGI knew exactly why they had come.

Although attendance was minimal and the event faced controversy, the information presented was professional, factual, and critically important for all parents and children affected by SOGI materials, as well as for the future of our civilization.
