The ultimate irony is that those pushing this narrative are entirely unconcerned about the innocent citizens of China, who endure immense suffering under the brutal communist regime. -ed
Leftist activists associated with an influential but secretive Maoist group called “Liberation Road” are working with the establishment media to promote Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda that Asian Americans are facing rising “hate crimes” in the face of the Chinese coronavirus, and President Trump is to blame.
This propaganda been regurgitated in mainstream media outlets such as NPR, PBS, the Washington Post, the New York Times and countless others with zero evidence that any such phenomenon is taking place.
The spokespeople for this initiative consist largely of three individuals: Russell Jeung, chair and professor of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University, Manjusha Kulkarni, executive director of the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (A3PCON) and Cynthia Choi, co-executive director of the “Maoist-leaning” Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA). The trio works closely with known front organizations for Liberation Road, according to communism and subversion expert Trevor Loudon, who spoke exclusively with RAIR Foundation USA.
Stop AAPI Hate Online Reporting Center
Much of the media propaganda focuses on an “online reporting center” which was “launched to track coronavirus-related hate crimes,” as reported at the Sacremento Bee on March 19, 2020. The “Stop AAPI Hate” initiative is a joint project designed by the groups named above, A3PCON and CAA, with support of San Francisco State University. The “Stop AAPI Hate” tool is described as “an online response form to collect and track incidents of microaggressions and harassment” allegedly experienced by Asian Americans by non-Asians who act out in insane rage because President Donald Trump used the phrase “Chinese Virus.” Notice how quickly the phrase “hate crime” morphs into “microaggressions.”
The most recent “Stop AAPI Hate” report consists of anecdotes purportedly from Asian Americans who believe they were discriminated against because of the coronavirus. The incidents appear to include anything from anonymous graffiti to mean comments. There is evidently no database accessible for the public to scrutinize the source data, as usual. Here are some examples of the incidents reported (typos included):
Parents who have been American citizens for thirty years and have not been out of the country in twenty years, experienced three young white men who were physically aggressive towards them until they (my parents) left the premises. No one did anything to stop this.
A guy came behind me, called out ‘hey’ as I turned around, he started spraying me with
Lysol and calling me all sorts of names.
I was shouted and harassed by the cashier, workers, as well as customers at the store to
get out of the store. ‘You Chinese bring the virus here and you dare asking people to
keep social distance guideline.’
I was walking home and someone in a pickup truck threw a bottle at me really hard. He
missed.
All of the allegations are anecdotal, presented without context. Despite the clear lack of the most minimal scrutiny of these events, this project is being cited by elected officials to justify actions such as calling on the federal government “to collect data to document the rise of incidences of hate crimes due to COVID-19.”
‘Solidarity, Not Stigma‘
Promoting the false narrative that hate crime is on the rise against Asian Americans is certainly used to divert attention from China’s role in the global pandemic. Using the propaganda slogan “Solidarity, Not Stigma,” current WHO Director-General, ardent CCP ally and Marxist revolutionary Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (widely known as “Dr. Tedros”) pushed this nonsensical slogan shortly after returning from Beijing during a speech on January 30, 2020. During his speech, the WHO Chief also gushed over China for their “transparency” and for “setting a new standard for outbreak response”.
It is now known of course, that Chinese officials covered up the outbreak, just as they covered up the SARS outbreak in 2002-2003. Dr. Tedros doubled down on the slogan during a speech on February 15, 2020, and further declared:
The greatest enemy we face is not the virus itself; it’s the stigma that turns us against each other. We must stop stigma and hate!
Together, the above-mentioned spokespeople for the Chinese propaganda: Russell Jeung, Manjusha Kulkarni and Cynthia Choi wrote an America-bashing, Trump-blaming, painfully juvenile joint op-ed published on April 1, 2020 at the Los Angeles Times titled “Op-Ed: Trump’s racist comments are fueling hate crimes against Asian Americans. Time for state leaders to step in”.
The CCP has been promoting this fable with the assistance of their allies in the United Nations (UN), the World Health Organization, pro-CCP activists, the mainstream media, and academia. Unfortunately, some in the not-quite-drained swamp known as the federal government are also regurgitating the myth.
The politicized Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) made a statement that there are “likely” to be “hate crime incidents” against Asian Americans according to ABC News on March 27, 2020:
“The FBI assesses hate crime incidents against Asian Americans likely will surge across the United States, due to the spread of coronavirus disease.” [emphasis added]
The FBI report cited by ABC News is evidently not available to the public.
China Daily, an “official mouthpiece” of the Chinese Communist Party, interviewed Cynthia Choi, who lambasted the President and echoed the false narrative of rising hate crimes against Asian Americans. It is revealing that CCP propaganda arm China Daily is using the same sources as the New York Times and The Washington Post.
‘Hate Crimes’ and the newer phenomenon of ‘Hate Incidents’
Like all such allegations of “rising” hate crimes, outliers are used to condemn the entire population, taking away responsibility from the comparatively minute number of individuals who engage in biased criminal activity. Importantly, a blurred line between actual crime and allegations submitted through an online form empower provocateurs to make bold assertions without evidence. The oft-repeated “rise” in anti-Asian sentiment is based solely on anecdotal evidence that cannot be confirmed.
Hate crime “incidents” are particularly useful because evidence is not needed. The “perpetrators” are often not named let alone given the opportunity to face their accusers. In the case of allegations collected by leftist organizations to promote their agenda, there are rarely accompanying police reports let alone any semblance of supporting evidence and the “incidents” can range from anything between chalk writings on a sidewalk to a perceived dirty look. In other words, the pesky constitutional requirement of due process is not required.
