Unmasking Corruption: Former MP Derek Sloan Exposes Pharmaceutical Influence and Public Health Manipulation (Video)

Former Canadian Conservative MP Derek Sloan testified before the National Citizen’s Inquiry this week in Ottawa. 

Sloan was one of the lone voices to sing from a different song sheet early in the pandemic; he opposed lockdowns, mask and vaccine mandates, and advised caution in a hurry to vaccinate the whole population. But he was silenced and censored, both by the media and his own Conservative party, which ousted him employing the tactics of cancel culture, forcing him to sit as an independent MP.

In his testimony to the National Citizen’s Inquiry in Ottawa on May 18th, Sloan describes the tumultuous time from March 2020 at the outset of the declaration of the pandemic and warns of the failures of the parliamentary and judicial systems to rein in the abuses of power used to perpetrate unfathomable human right violations against Canadians from coast to coast. 

“There was basically no substantive debate in the House of Commons on how to address COVID-19. It was assumed that locking down and shutting down and all of these things were acceptable by our federal leaders. Now, I understand that some of these were provincial decisions, but nonetheless, it’s incumbent upon all legislators, especially the federal legislature, to discuss these crises,” explained Sloan. “They will have emergency debates on every topic under the sun, but the status quo position, it was never questioned. So initially, you know, it was lockdown, stay safe, flatten the curve. And then it was, vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate, and every party was just cheerleading that that approach. There was no discussion about if there was any other way we could deal with this. Do we have to lock everybody down? Are there any other treatments that can help people, you know, build up immunity to this? You know, even the idea of immunity? There was never any real conversation about the mechanics of COVID-19. And what we should do about it, there was just sort of a tacit (approval). The parliamentarians were as much like sheep as anybody else in terms of just listening to whatever Dr. Tam or the World Health Organization had to say. There was no substantive analysis or questioning of any of that. And I think that’s very frightening because we elect members of parliament to be the last stop, right?”

Sloan, who was elected as a federal Conservative MP to represent a rural riding to the west of Ottawa in September 2019, was ejected in January 2021. The Conservative party used a trumped-up charge of accepting a donation from a racist with supremacist ideas. But Sloan knows it was really because he was asking difficult questions on several topics. “The real reason why is basically I was speaking out and doing things that made the leader at the time (Erin O’Toole) uncomfortable, and they needed a way to get me out of there. I had been very vocal on issues relating to COVID-19. A subset of the Caucus had tried to kick me out of the party already.” 

He then voiced concerns over the gender transitioning of children. Next, he sponsored a petition from a B.C.-based transgender person asking why the incidence of transitioning was so much higher among children in foster care. He followed that by sponsoring another petition that “was basically questioning the safety of the vaccines. “And we had, I forget how many signatures, but tens of thousands of signatures before it closed,” he recalls. The Caucus didn’t like any of it, so they voted to eject him. 

However, Sloan was not silenced and continued to use his Parliamentary soapbox to raise awareness of the dangers of lockdowns and the unknown safety risks of the rushed-to-market vaccines. He organized a series of Parliamentary press conferences filmed by CPAC and posted to their website and YouTube channels. The first, with People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier and provincial MPP Randy Hillier on the dangers of lockdowns; the second, in June 2021, with a panel of doctors and scientists who spoke to the question of medical censorship. The University of Guelph Associate Professor of Viral Immunology, Dr. Byram Bridle, was joined by emergency room physician Dr. Patrick Phillips and the Chair in Molecular Neuroscience and Vascular Biology at Western University, Dr. Don Welsh. While that second conference was subsequently censored by YouTube, it remains the most-watched CPAC video ever, with over 750,000 views. “At that point, YouTube pulled the video down. It’s the only video I’m aware of on the CPAC channel that YouTube censored. It’s been viewed and shared around the world. I’m sure many millions of times, and it did get international attention as well.” But there was more. “Halfway through our press conference on censorship, our Facebook feed just stopped. Right in the middle when Byram Bridle was doing his thing, it just stopped, with 15,000 people watching live at that time,” recalls Sloan. “A few minutes later, we started it again, and it went through to the end. But Facebook censored that.”

That press conference had a huge impact. “Even to this day, many people who saw that tell me that it was the turning point in their life, in terms of thinking about COVID differently, and thinking about the COVID vaccine differently,” says Sloan.

After that time, many of Sloan’s parliamentary colleagues gave him the quiet thumbs up, but none stepped out of the shadows, unwilling to risk certain career destruction. “I can tell you I’ve never been in an environment where there’s such a groupthink mentality, particularly in the House of Commons. It was shocking,” he said. “Part of the issue is that Members of Parliament had their heads in the sand. And for those that didn’t, the fears of party discipline kept them quiet. And it kept them quiet during one of the most momentous times in recent history. And if enough people had spoken up, we could have maybe saved some lives and averted major economic catastrophe.”

But party discipline, fear of reprisal, and a Conservative party that did nothing to challenge the orthodoxy of the ruling Liberals meant that the few voices of true opposition were drowned by the chorus of pro-mask, pro-mandate, pro-vaccination M.P.s at every turn. “A lot of these people are happy that they get to speak up about some things now. But we don’t have that luxury. When a crisis is at our door, we must speak when the time is at hand,” says Sloan. “There was a failure to do that by almost everybody in the House of Commons. There were some people who were agitating behind closed doors; there were a couple of people who said some things here and there. And that’s good that they did that. But overall, there was a failure to really ask questions and push back. The Conservatives could have done so much to start a conversation at the national level; they could have used their opposition day to ask questions about the vaccine, to ask questions about the policies that were being implemented across the country. It’s not just Canada; that happened in a lot of places, but it certainly happened here.”

Sloan believes that there’s “corruption at very high levels. It’s very clear that there was a pharmaceutical agenda to shut down any discussion about how to treat COVID. What I think happened is that from the highest levels, maybe elite financial interests – pharmaceuticals – they had a game plan. They codified it, convinced the public health establishment to go along with it, and the politicians just bought it. But I know that as a regular parliamentarian, nobody was coming to me and twisting my arm to believe anything in particular.”

Sadly, the judicial system failed Canadians too. “Better judges need to be appointed by better governments,” says Sloan. “There also needs to be faster access to justice. The court system was a failure in this. There needs to be some way to have expedited hearings on matters of extreme importance.”

However, the most effective thing that we all can do to prevent similar egregious abuses of power is to get involved. “I think what can save us is educated and involved citizens who actually hold the government to account,” says Sloan. “Canadians haven’t done that. They’ve voted in governments that – COVID aside – have continually undermined our sovereignty and our economic standing. And they just don’t seem to care. Canadian citizens need to realize that politics affects them, whether they think it does or not. We need to hold our leaders to account and make sure that we are voting for the right people and getting involved personally.”
