Paris, October 26, 2023 – A recently resurfaced video from more than three decades ago featuring Jean Louis Marie Le Pen, the former right-wing politician and one-time leader of the National Front, has ignited a fresh wave of debate and controversy regarding immigration policies in France. In the video, Le Pen made statements that some are now dubbing prophetic, as they bear a striking resemblance to the mass-Muslim immigration-related concerns facing the country today.

Jean Louis Marie Le Pen, born on June 20, 1928, is a prominent figure in French politics, well-known for his right-wing stance and controversial statements throughout his career. He served as the President of the National Front from 1972 to 2011, and subsequently as the Honorary President of the National Front from 2011 to 2015. His political career also extended to the European Parliament, where he represented his views as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP).

Le Pen’s tumultuous relationship with the National Front culminated in his expulsion from the party in 2015, following a series of controversial statements that drew sharp criticism. Notably, he disowned his daughter, Marine Le Pen, who had taken over as the party’s leader.

In the video, which dates back 35 years, Jean Louis Marie Le Pen voiced his concerns about the consequences of unchecked immigration.

“We need to solve the problem of immigration by reversing the trend of immigration. Because if we do not, we will be progressively submerged not only by the social tide, if I may say, but also by the religious tide, by the cultural tide,” Le Pen stated in the video. “My dear compatriots, how could I not draw your attention to the fact that foreigners who come to our country bring their own customs, their own habits, their own beliefs with them. They do not adopt ours, and one day, if we don’t pay any attention to it, they will impose them on us, as they do in Lebanon.”

Lebanon is a small country in West Asia on the Mediterranean coast. In 1970s, except Israel, it was the only non-Muslim majority country in the region. And it was also the only other democracy. And it was its democracy which ultimately led to its takeover by Muslims.

These resurfaced remarks are now generating debate and reflection among the public, politicians, and experts on the extent to which Le Pen’s earlier predictions have relevance in contemporary France. The video has reignited discussions on the challenges of integrating Muslim and Arab communities, the preservation of French culture, and the role of immigration policies in shaping the nation’s future.
