During a routine check at Milan’s Cadorna subway station, police officers detained a 37-year-old Algerian man after he raised suspicion during a document inspection. Unbeknownst to them, the man was wanted for terrorism. The situation took a tense turn when the Algerian started shouting the Islamic battle cry, “Allahu Akhbar,” and reached into his backpack, revealing a 12-cm blade.
The Milan police arrested him in the past few days, acting on an international arrest warrant for his involvement in a terrorist association. The 37-year-old had been evading Algerian authorities since 2015, allegedly serving in the Islamic State’s militias on the Syrian-Iraqi front. Considered highly dangerous and with close ties to ISIS, the Algerian man is now held at San Vittore prison in Milan. Extradition procedures are underway, with the Minister of Justice already approving the process.
