HLN requested these emails under the Freedom of Information Act, but the minister continues obstructing them. Kathleen Depoorter, a member of the Belgian Parliament, has consistently highlighted irregularities in a contract for distributing Covid vaccines valued over 50 million euros. She has been advocating for an audit for the past year and a half. In a pointed speech in Parliament, she pressed the issue with the Prime Minister: “Mr. Prime Minister, you haven’t confirmed an audit nor assured us of the absence of tampering in this contract. We need transparency,” she emphasized. Depoorter quoted a civil servant, indicating a rectification in the process, and cited the distributor’s commercial director, who implied the contract was won through personal contacts. “This evidence involves a contract worth over 50 million euros,” she argued. “We, the N-VA party, have repeatedly requested an investigation. It’s your responsibility, Mr. Prime Minister, to ensure this is right, as this involves taxpayers’ money.”

“The gang of deceivers must be held accountable,” says lawyer Carine Knapen. “All of them.”
