An 18-year-old German woman was traumatized after a group of “German” men with Turkish migrant backgrounds allegedly gang-raped her in a hotel room on the Spanish island of Majorca. The attack occurred on Thursday in the popular tourist destination of Playa de Palma, leading to the arrest of five men aged 20 and 21, while a sixth man was later released.
According to the victim, a German tourist, she initially met one of the accused at a party and voluntarily followed him to his hotel room. However, upon entering the room, she noticed that some of the man’s friends were intoxicated, prompting her decision to leave. The men prevented her from leaving the room and proceeded to gang-rape her while others watched. The crime was reportedly filmed on cell phones.

The hotel reception was alerted, and the woman managed to escape, leading to the intervention of the police. Subsequently, the young men were apprehended and taken into custody, while the victim was transported to a hospital for examination and support. The victim presented injuries to her neck, arms, and genital area, indicating that she had suffered a sexual assault. The authorities have confirmed that the victim is 18 years old, and the Special Unit of the National Police for the Protection of Women and Families (UFAM) has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
A court on the island of Majorca rejected a request for bail made by the defense lawyers representing the five accused men. The court emphasized that the individuals were to remain in custody pending further investigation and trial. Notably, the German tabloid BILD specified that all indicted men have a migrant background.
The suspects could face significant prison sentences, as gang rape in Spain is punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment. The case has attracted widespread attention, particularly in Spain, where the number of violent crimes committed by foreign tourists has reportedly surged in 2023.
This incident has drawn comparisons to a similar high-profile case in 2016 in Pamplona, Spain, where five men, known as “La Manada” (the pack), raped an 18-year-old woman during the bull hunt. The perpetrators had also recorded the act on a cell phone camera. The case led to nationwide protests and sparked a debate about the lenient punishment imposed on the perpetrators. In 2019, following public outrage and subsequent appeals, the Supreme Court reclassified the crime as rape and increased the sentence for each offender to 15 years in prison.
