Canada: Muslims Shouting 'Allahu Akbar', Chanting 'Death to Israel, Death to Jews', Block Montreal Jews from Holocaust Museum Event (Video)

In Montreal on Monday, March 4, 2024, a deeply concerning protest erupted as pro-Hamas demonstrators targeted the entrance to the Federation CJA building and the Holocaust Museum to prevent Jewish community members from attending a scheduled event. The violent mob, chanting the Islamic war cry “Allahu Akbar,” surrounded the Jewish community’s central building in Côte-des-Neiges, where an event titled “Israeli Perspective: Coming to Life” was being held. This not only threatened the safety of Jewish Montrealers but also included calls of “Death to Israel, Death to the Jews,” further escalating tensions in the city.

The Center for Jewish and Israeli Relations (CIJA on Twitter) reported the following about the disturbing scenes: “The ‘Mort à Israël, mort aux Juifs’ (Death to Israel, death to the Jews) was heard yesterday when a hateful crowd surrounded one of the main buildings of the Jewish community. These Islamist chants to kill Jews are a clear call to violence and show the underlying hatred of these demonstrations. The @SPVM (Montreal Police) must investigate and proceed with arrests for this call for the death of 90,000 Quebec citizens.”

The CIJA and Federation CJA, in a joint statement, highlighted the severity of the situation, emphasizing that the protest was not a mere political statement or related to foreign conflicts but a direct and intentional act of intimidation against Jewish residents of Montreal. The statement underscored the transformation of recent protests into a violent Islamic mob attacking Jewish institutions and individuals, an act that they firmly stated cannot be tolerated in Montreal.

CIJA and Federation CJA’s call to action was clear: arrests must be made, and the Jewish community must be able to gather without the need for protection. Their message was a direct appeal to leaders to recognize the seriousness of these intimidations and act accordingly to ensure the safety and freedom of Jewish Montrealers.

Supporting this call for action, the organization Stand With Us released a statement expressing solidarity with the attacked Jewish community, condemning the aggressive behavior of the mob, and advocating for accountability and the right of the Jewish community to live without fear.

Marco Mendicino, MP for Eglinton-Lawrence in Ontario, Canada, commented on the disturbing attack on the Jewish community in a post on X: “Tonight, the Montreal Jewish Federation Building and Holocaust Museum is being bombarded with hate, intimidation, and violence towards the Jewish community. This isn’t lawful protest. It’s targeted coercion, fueled by antisemitism. It’s against the law. And it must end.”

Following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, the Jewish community in Montreal has seen a significant rise in hate incidents, with the numbers surpassing the total reports of crimes from the previous year. Highlighting the grave severity of these acts, the targeted violence has alarmingly included Jewish children, with shootings occurring at two schools in the Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce area. This disturbing trend underscores the urgent need for heightened protection and awareness around the safety of the Jewish community, especially the most vulnerable among them—children.

Since the escalation of attacks and attempted assassinations of Jews in this area of Montreal, Yair Szlak, the CEO of Federation CJA, has been vocal in his pleas for assistance from Canada to address the growing hostility and danger facing the Jewish community, exacerbated by the mobilization of Islamic Hamas supporters and leftists. However, based on the threats and targeting of Jews on Monday, it is apparent that not much has been done to protect the community.”
