In an address at the Congress of Deputies, Santiago Abascal, President of the VOX Party, launched a scathing attack on socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Abascal criticized his foreign policy decisions and accused him of siding with Islamic terrorists. His remarks centered on Sánchez’s recent recognition of the Palestinian state, support of Hamas, abandonment of Israel, and his shameful stance on Middle Eastern affairs.
Abascal began by referencing Sánchez’s speech at the European Council, where the Prime Minister announced his recognition of the Palestinian State. Abascal denounced this move, claiming that Sánchez had adopted a non-partisan stance between what he described as a “satanic terrorist entity” and a democratic state like Israel.
“All you have done so far is to take a non-partisan stance between a satanic terrorist entity and a democratic state like Israel. Yes, satanic terrorism. Do you think it’s too much? Maybe it’s because you haven’t watched the videos,” Abascal stated emphatically, alluding to footage of Hamas slaughtering, kidnapping and raping innocent Israelis.
He went on to accuse Sánchez of complicity with evil, asserting that the Prime Minister’s recognition of the Palestinian state was an endorsement of Hamas, an Islamic group he characterized as being responsible for some of the worst terrorist attacks in history. Abascal criticized Sánchez for his unilateral decision, arguing that it came at a time of heightened conflict and followed horrific terrorist acts.
“Evil, which is Hamas, has applauded you. And it has shown it today with your decision,” Abascal charged. He further highlighted remarks made by former minister Mrs. Rego, who supported the idea of a Palestinian state encompassing all territory from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, implying the destruction of Israel.
Abascal also accused the Sánchez government of relying on reports from Hamas and drawing parallels to previous reliance on reports from ETA, a Basque separatist group. “Permanently, you have been accepting Hamas’ reports and data, as you have ended up accepting ETA’s reports,” he asserted.
The VOX leader painted a stark picture of the humanitarian impact of the conflict, citing images of violence and terror broadcast on social media. He questioned how Sánchez would react if a similar terrorist organization targeted Spain and kidnapped Spanish citizens, suggesting that the Prime Minister would fail to defend national interests.
“The Spanish people need to know how Sánchez would act if a terrorist organization did the same things against Spain and had 130 Spaniards kidnapped,” Abascal posed rhetorically, implying that Sánchez’s response would be inadequate.
Abascal concluded his speech by condemning Hamas as the primary obstacle to peace and criticizing the handling of Gaza by the Palestinian National Authority since 2005. He urged Sánchez to address issues of humanitarian aid, prosperity, and respect for women and LGBTQ+ rights in the region.
The speech highlighted the deep divisions in Spanish politics over foreign policy and the Middle East, with Abascal positioning VOX as a staunch defender of Israel and a critic of what he sees as appeasement of Islamic terrorist groups.
