Nijjar used a fake passport and assumed a false identity as “Ravi Sharma” when he arrived at Toronto Airport in 1997. He sought asylum, claiming to be a victim of Indian police harassment. Strikingly, just 11 days after his asylum request was rejected, he married a British Columbia woman who sponsored his immigration despite authorities uncovering the fraudulent nature of their marriage.
