An Austrian kindergarten has disinvited Santa Claus, citing reasons of “diversity” and “cultural differences.” Officials express the need for children not to be frightened.
For the first time in decades, a man dressed as Santa Claus will not be visiting the children at the Plainfeld community kindergarten in Salzburg. According to a report from Salzburger Nachrichten, the officials this year have decided to keep him away from the children. Traditionally, Santa Claus wears a headpiece with a prominently visible Christian cross.
As per the report, the stated reasons for this decision are “diversity” and “cultural differences.” Additionally, some children reportedly fear the man in the red attire who usually delights the little ones on December 6.
Does Santa Claus’s candy no longer appeal to the children?
The Mayor of the municipality, Wolfgang Ganzenhuber (ÖVP), who has been in office for 14 years, expressed surprise at this justification: “At least no one has complained to me that Santa Claus visits the children,” he told the newspaper.
He shared, instead, the accounts of outraged parents who had approached him, puzzled about why the tradition was being broken after so many years. Due to the protests, educators are now considering letting the children vote on whether they want to accept sweets from the Christian figure.

Kids need a Santa Klaus figure for the Holydays. It’s fun, and they can learn about baby Jesus, the three wise men, and sing the Christmas carols.
Diversity and inclusion is for people that assimilate to the host culture. They are included when they prove they can learn to speak the host country language, abide by the laws, culture, and customs. There is zero reason(that is acceptable) to disinvite Santa Claus.
