On Friday, October 18, an Algerian illegal migrant, under an OQTF (Order to Leave French Territory), was arrested after threatening to kill bus passengers with a 20 cm kitchen knife at the Pablo Picasso bus station in Bobigny, Seine-Saint-Denis. The suspect, identified as Brahim Brahmi, 24, born in Tlemcen, Algeria, and homeless, was arrested for death threats, carrying a category D weapon, resisting arrest, and assaulting police officers.
Brahmi, who is already known to the authorities for street selling, theft, and violence, was also under an immediate OQTF and banned from returning to French territory (IRTF). Despite these restrictions, he had remained in France illegally.
The incident unfolded at 4:35 p.m. when Brahmi began threatening two bus controllers and passengers. Witnesses reported him shouting death threats in Arabic while brandishing the knife. According to one of the bus controllers, he specifically threatened to “kill everyone” on board.
Responding officers, part of the administrative buildings guard unit of the DTSP 93, arrived at the scene and instructed the frightened passengers to disembark. They confronted Brahmi at the back of the bus, where he resisted arrest, kicking and punching the officers. He was eventually subdued after a struggle, during which police had to use force to restrain him.
Eric Henry, national delegate of the Alliance Police Nationale union, praised the officers for their bravery in preventing what could have been a much worse outcome. “Our colleagues certainly avoided the worst by arresting a passenger under OQTF who threatened to kill all the passengers. Their courage is commendable,” Henry stated.
