A significant security incident occurred in Paris’s 15th arrondissement when a Muslim known to be on a terror watchlist entered a synagogue unauthorized. The incident took place at around 12:45 PM on Thursday. The Jihadi, once inside, began to pray in Arabic and recited Quranic verses. Notably, this was his second unauthorized entry into the synagogue on the same day.
The individual is flagged in the French security system as a person of interest due to his connections with Islamic terror movements in the Île-de-France region. His profile also suggests a potential risk of traveling to foreign countries for jihadi activities. This classification was made by the Intelligence Directorate of the Paris Police Prefecture in 2019.
Post-incident, the synagogue was inspected thoroughly, revealing no suspicious or dangerous items. The synagogue’s management is contemplating legal action against the individual for this breach.
Previously, on December 9, the same individual was detained while “praying” outside the Israeli Embassy in Paris, indicating a pattern of concerning behavior.
As of now, the Paris prosecutor’s office has not yet responded to inquiries about this incident.
This breach highlights a critical security issue concerning the monitoring and management of individuals on terror watchlists. It emphasizes the need for enhanced protective measures around non-Muslim religious and public spaces to prevent similar incidents and ensure public safety.
