In a sweeping operation across Germany, the government executed a significant crackdown on Wednesday against what it labeled an Islamic extremist network promoting Iran’s theocratic ideology and backing militant activities. At the heart of this network was the Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH) and five associated organizations, all now under the intense scrutiny of German law enforcement.
As dawn broke, police raided 53 properties, including a prominent mosque in Hamburg known for its striking blue tiles. This mosque is allegedly a foreign outpost for Iran’s regime. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated that the raids and ensuing ban were triggered by mounting evidence confirming that the IZH was fostering Islamist-extremist ideology in Germany, supporting Hezbollah Islamic militants, and spreading virulent antisemitism.
According to the Interior Ministry, the IZH operated as a direct arm of Iran’s Supreme Leader, aggressively promoting the Islamic Revolution’s ideology to spark similar upheavals within Germany. This operation extended beyond Hamburg, with raids conducted in Berlin and six other states, underscoring the broad and decisive action taken by the government to curb these radical activities.
After being under investigation for several months for its support of the EU-designated Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, German authorities shut down the Islamic Center Hamburg on Wednesday. The center is being banned for spreading Islamic extremism. At the same time, left-wing Minister Faeser emphasized that this action was not against Islam as a religion but specifically against a group accused of undermining the German state and women’s rights.
German intelligence considers the IZH an extension of the Iranian regime in Germany, wielding significant influence over various mosques and associations. The center is under investigation for “spreading aggressive anti-Semitism” and maintaining links to Hezbollah, which led to Wednesday’s decision to ban the organization. The Ministry of the Interior described the IZH as an “Islamist extremist organization pursuing unconstitutional goals” and accused it of spreading Iranian revolutionary ideas “in an aggressive and militant way.”
The police searched 53 properties and closed down four mosques as part of this extensive operation. Hamburg residents had been calling for years to investigate the IZH, reflecting local concerns.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the German ambassador over the ban, calling it “an example of Islamophobia” and a violation of freedom of expression. In response, a German Foreign Ministry official remarked that it was up to Iran to move toward improving ties.
This decisive action by German authorities sends a clear message against the spread of Islamic jihad and the influence of foreign Islamic regimes wanting to destroy Western nations and conquer them.

The last passage remains puzzling. “According to the school, it places particular emphasis on STEM” (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Is this part of the problem?

Anyone wondering what I meant by “he sees no contradiction in this” in the first paragraph was missing a sentence: “And because successful capitalism always means the free (i.e. borderless) movement of goods, it inevitably entails the global movement of the ‘resource of human material’.”
