In the wake of the ongoing conflict in Israel, there has been a notable increase in the demand for Islamic prayer rooms in schools, especially for prayers facing Mecca. Since October 7, schools across various districts and types have reported this rise, according to Katharina Günther-Wünsch, the Education Senator.
The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) politician emphasized the need for inclusivity in considering prayer rooms. “When thinking about a prayer room, we must include all faith communities,” she stated.
The Berlin Senate has issued recommendations to all schools in response to this demand:
- Requests for prayer during class time should not be accommodated. It is reasonable to ask students to pray during break times.
- Prayer should not disturb school peace, regardless of whether the praying individual is at fault.
- Schools are not required to provide a specific room for prayers.
Senator Günther-Wünsch further noted that schools can intervene when a prayer room leads to conflicts or is used for missionary purposes.
A case that gained national attention involved Yunus M., a Muslim student who was 14 years old at the time, from Diesterweg-Gymnasium in Wedding. He prayed in the school hallway, which the principal initially prohibited. In 2008, he successfully sued in the Berlin Administrative Court, winning the right to use his prayer mat in the computer room during lunchtime.
However, the Senate prevailed in the Higher Administrative Court, a decision upheld by the highest judges in Leipzig. Despite the right to religious freedom, the verdict was made in the name of school liberty.

Asinine. They can pray at home like Christian kids have to do. The host culture does not assimilate to heathen culture. It is backasswards thinking.
You are absolutely right. Our governments have stepped all over our rights as tax paying citizens in order to welcome the non productive heathen. They take away your guns so that you can’t protect yourselves and then coddle the criminal elements and the lowlifes of society.
The solution is merit-based immigration only.
That also applies to hiring practices by any business or professional person. Life isn’t fair. This DEI and Affirmative action crap lowers the quality of services and products. I don’t want any doctor or technical service person to work on me or my machines unless they achieved expertise in their selected field based upon merit, not their race or pronoun baloney.

When are schools going to return to teaching basic fundamentals like reading, writing, and arithmetic? How about some lessons which require critical thinking? We have an abundance of social and mental retards being cultivated that don’t know their front hole from their back hole.
