Dearborn, Michigan: In a series of recent controversial videos, notorious Michigan Islamic scholar Ahmad Musa Jibril has stirred controversy once again with his explicit advocacy of Jihad and inflammatory statements against Western nations and leaders. These videos, circulated on social media platforms such as “Shaykh Ahmad Musa Jibril on X” and the Telegram channel “Ilm Cafe,” have brought renewed attention to Jibril’s Islamic influence.

In a video dated November 25, 2023, Jibril unequivocally declared Jihad as a “holy war” in Islam, challenging the interpretations of moderate Islamic scholars, specifically targeting Hamza Yusuf. He accused American Zionists of crafting a version of Islam tailored to Western interests, vehemently criticizing those who negate the concept of holy war within Islam. Jibril’s rhetoric aggressively targeted U.S. President Biden, labeling him a “terrorist” and a “senile Pharaoh” and broadly condemning the U.S. and the West as “vicious enemies of Muslims.”

In his Islamic sermon, Jibril emphasized the need for Muslims, particularly in the West, to normalize discussions about Jihad. He called for a paradigm shift, urging mothers to instill the love of Jihad and the ambition of martyrdom in their infants. His message was clear: Jihad should be a prominent and normalized term in the vocabulary of Muslims, particularly the youth, in their daily conversations, social media interactions, and religious gatherings.

He accused the U.S. of being more culpable for the situation in Palestine than Israel, berated Arab leaders for their subservience to Western powers, and condemned the infiltration of Western culture into Islamic societies. Jibril’s background adds context to his recent dangerous Islamic sermons. A U.S. citizen of Palestinian descent, he has a history of legal troubles, including a prison sentence for conspiracy, fraud, money laundering, and possession of firearms and ammunition. Known for his Islamic teachings, Jibril has been cited as an inspiration for several Jihadist attacks and radical Islamic movements in the West.

Ahmad Musa Jibril, a Palestinian-American Islamic preacher born in 1972 in Dearborn, Michigan, has become a controversial figure in the context of global Islamic extremism and Islamic terror. His influence, primarily through social media, has been linked to several Islamic terrorist attacks, including the London Bridge jihad attack in 2017.

Jibril’s early life was split between the United States and Saudi Arabia. He spent part of his childhood in Medina, where his father was enrolled at the Islamic University of Madinah. Later, Jibril pursued his own studies at the same university, obtaining a degree in Sharia law. In the 1990s, Jibril’s ideological stance became more evident. He established AlSalafyoon.com, a website featuring content described by U.S. prosecutors as “fanatically anti-American sermons.” His teachings encouraged spreading of Islam through violent Jihad and expressed deep hostility towards non-Muslims and the West. Jibril’s ideology was influenced by the Sahwa movement, combining Islamic revolutionary ideology with Saudi Wahhabism.

Criminal Activities and Conviction

• 1995 Riyadh Bombing: The day after a bomb attack in Riyadh on November 13, 1995, Jibril, using the alias Thomas Saad, sent a fax to CNN claiming the attack’s purpose was to remove Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula. This message suggested further attacks regardless of the consequences. Although the government found no direct evidence linking Jibril to the bombing, the incident was referenced in a 2005 supplemental sentencing memorandum.
• Criminal Charges and Conviction: In 2004, he and his Islamic preacher father faced trial in Detroit on 42 criminal charges, including conspiracy, bank fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, and illegal possession of firearms. Notably, prosecutors documented Jibril’s use of over 80 different aliases in fraudulent activities. He was convicted and sentenced to six and a half years in a high-security prison.

• Influence on Terrorism in the United States: Jibril was reported to have influenced terrorists in the U.S. as early as fall 2014. Notably, he was linked to a Sharia-inspired beheading at an Oklahoma meatpacking plant by a Muslim, Alton Nolen.

• Furthermore, he inspired Yemeni immigrant pizza shop manager Mufid Elfgeeh. Elfgeeh was charged with attempted murder and efforts to fund ISIS and was found to be actively recruiting jihadists using Twitter, WhatsApp, and 23 distinct Facebook accounts. He was later sentenced to 22 years in prison.

• Australian Attorney-General’s Disclosure (2016): In a terrorist conspiracy trial, the Australian Attorney-General revealed that a “self-styled Facebook preacher” used the platform to spread hatred against non-Muslims, with Ahmad Musa Jibril’s videos calling for Jihad interspersed on his Facebook page.
• Indian Attorney-General’s Listing (2016): The Attorney-General for India listed Jibril as one of 14 individuals disseminating ISIS propaganda in the trial of Mohammad Farhan. Farhan was influenced by Jibril’s online lectures and became a supporter of ISIS in September 2014.
• Influence on June 2017 London Attack: Ahmad Musa Jibril significantly influenced Khuram Shazad Butt, one of the attackers in the June 2017 London Bridge and Borough Market attack. Butt, a 27-year-old former KFC and London Tube worker, was reportedly radicalized by Jibril’s YouTube videos. The attack, executed by Butt and others, resulted in 11 deaths and 48 injuries. Friends and acquaintances of Butt, who was shot dead by police during the incident, identified Jibril’s online content as a key factor in Butt’s radicalization.

Influence and Activities Post-Imprisonment

Following his release from prison in 2012, Jibril resumed his Islamic activities online, creating threatening Islamic content on platforms like YouTube and social media. Despite a temporary restriction on his internet access in 2014, his influence continued to grow. He was reportedly placed on the FBI’s watch list due to his activities.

Social Media Presence and Criticism

Jibril’s widespread use of social media has sparked significant criticism and controversy. Platforms such as YouTube have been criticized for not removing his content, which is jihadist Muslim propaganda. Despite this, Jibril has amassed a substantial following on various platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. His online content has been linked to the radicalization of Muslims across the globe.

This situation is further complicated by accusations that these social media companies disproportionately target conservative voices for bans and censorship, revealing more inconsistency in their content moderation policies. The response of these platforms, particularly YouTube, to content related to Islamic radicalism versus conservative political content has once again highlighted the left-wing support of Islamic terrorism.

Prominent conservative commentator Michelle Malkin was vocal in her criticism in 2017, stating, “One of the many maddening takeaways from the London Bridge jihad attack is this: If you post videos on YouTube radicalizing Muslim viewers to kill innocent people, YouTube will leave you alone. But if you post a video on YouTube honoring innocent people murdered by barbaric jihadists, your video will get banned.” She further asserted that the actions of Silicon Valley’s ‘enlightened peace-and-love progressives’ are not just negligent but significantly detrimental, suggesting they bear responsibility for the consequences of their moderation policies.

Law Enforcement Priorities

The case of Ahmad Musa Jibril, juxtaposed with the FBI’s intensive pursuit of individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol incident, raises significant questions about law enforcement priorities and effectiveness. While individuals who merely stepped foot in the Capitol, the majority being non-violent and carrying American flags, have faced rigorous investigations, relentless targeting, and prison time, Islamic supremacists like Jibril continue to openly radicalize individuals globally with seemingly less urgency in intervention.

This disparity is particularly stark in light of past incidents where the FBI had prior interactions with Muslims who later committed acts of terror, such as Major Hasan in Fort Hood, Omar Mateen in Orlando, Esteban Santiago in Fort Lauderdale, and the Tsarnaev brothers in Boston. Each of these cases resulted in tragic loss of life and raised concerns about missed opportunities for prevention.

The ongoing situation poses a critical question: What is the threshold for action against figures like Jibril, who, unlike the January 6 participants, actively calls for Jihad and has a documented history of inspiring lethal Islamic terrorist attacks? The approach to monitoring and intervening in cases of Islamic extremism, as opposed to other forms of perceived threats, appears inconsistent and demands reevaluation.

Robert Mueller and Obama purged the FBI of all training materials offensive to Muslims

As Jibril’s calls for Jihad against non-Muslims persist, and his influence on susceptible Muslims continues unabated, the necessity for a more balanced and proactive approach in law enforcement becomes evident. How many more lives need to be lost before a change in strategy is implemented and a much-needed education in Islam happens? Remember, when Robert Mueller was the head of the FBI (2001 to 2013), he worked with groups linked to Islamic terror-tied groups to purge the FBI of all training materials offensive to Muslims.

Mueller presided over and approved the removal of all mention of Islam and Jihad from counterterror training materials, thereby hamstringing agents’ ability to understand the motives and goals of jihad terrorists and to counter them effectively.

Instead, the FBI is now busy learning about the alleged threats of ‘Islamophobia’ and Trump supporters and conservative parent groups. The need for effective law enforcement that protects against Islamic terrorists and does not politically target Americans is more pressing than ever.
