In a recent interview, German left-wing media outlet WELT made an overt attempt to link the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland) with former U.S. President Donald Trump in a thinly veiled attack. The exchange sparked a heated response from AfD co-leader Alice Weidel, who openly challenged the journalist’s loaded question.
The exchange began with the interviewer accusing both Trump and, by implication, the AfD of promoting “hate and incitement.” They continued, “Is he also a role model for you in this respect?” implying that Weidel and her party’s political stance might align with the negative attributes commonly projected onto Trump by mainstream European media.
Weidel responded, refusing to accept the framing. “So now you’re framing me for hate and incitement, exactly the kind of rhetoric that you directed against Donald Trump,” she countered, turning the tables on the media’s attempt to paint the AfD as a divisive force. Weidel argued that it was this very approach by mainstream outlets—their relentless criticism, accusations of “hate and incitement,” and “disparagement”—that led to Trump’s success. “That’s why he won this election. Because the people will no longer be taken for fools,” Weidel stated.
She criticized what she labeled as the “woke left-wing BS” perpetuated by German media, pointing out that a growing number of young voters see through it. Highlighting their preference for genuine educational reform over “gender nonsense” and “left-wing woke ideology,” Weidel suggested that Trump’s popularity among young voters stemmed from his stance against these trends. She noted that this rising sentiment isn’t limited to the U.S.; it’s also taking root in Germany.
Weidel took the opportunity to outline the AfD’s goals should they gain power, pledging to overhaul Germany’s education system to eliminate what she termed “gender nonsense” and provide a pathway for young people to secure a stable future. “The AfD,” she declared, “will throw all this gender nonsense out of the education plan and give young people in this country — the working population — prospects.”
Her response was met with enthusiastic applause from viewers who feel similarly disillusioned by the influence of left-wing media and radical leaders eroding the very foundations of Western civilization.
