Netherlands: Rat Poison-Laced Dog Food Found in Park, Sign Reads 'For Jewish Dogs'

Dr. Vermeer from the clinic stated, “This morning, there was a lot of stuff lying at the entrance to the Diemerpark, at the end of Diemerparklaan in front of the hill. A brown sheet with a sign that says ‘Sate for Jewish dogs’ was found in this. Rat poison was found in this, which is very poisonous to dogs! The Municipality cleared it up quickly after we received a report.”

Regarded as haram, or forbidden, they’re considered impure, a belief stemming from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. But what unfolds beyond this theological stance is a disturbing history of violence and cruelty towards these innocent animals, which is consistent across the Muslim world.

Muhammad’s disdain for dogs is well-documented in Islamic scriptures. The canonical hadith collections reveal his explicit orders for their extermination, as recounted by Abdullah bin Omar: “The Messenger of Allah used to order the killing of dogs, so we used to send [men] to Medina and its adjoining vicinity, and we spared no dog but rather killed it.” These directives, unflinchingly carried out, underscore a systemic hostility towards dogs.

While some concessions were made for utilitarian purposes such as hunting or guarding, the core sentiment remained unchanged. Dogs were to be kept at arm’s length, with warnings that angels would shun any home harboring them. Such sentiments are encapsulated in anti-dog fatwas, emphasizing the need for Muslims to maintain aversion towards these animals.

The repercussions of this ingrained hostility extend beyond theological discourse. Recent events across the Muslim world illustrate the stark reality faced by dogs. In Hebron, Palestine, the mayor’s bounty for dog killings incited a gruesome spree of torture and slaughter, as captured in chilling images. Iran’s raid on a dog shelter, resulting in the massacre of hundreds of animals, stands as a harrowing testament to institutionalized violence.

Qatar witnessed armed men storming a facility to execute stray dogs over alleged attacks, while the Taliban callously condemned cats and dogs to suffocate in crates. Such atrocities paint a distressing picture of widespread cruelty, punctuating the disconnect between religious doctrine and humane treatment.

The narrative takes a global turn, as reports emerge of Muslim cab drivers and municiple bus drives in Western countries refusing service to blind or disabled passengers with guide dogs. Instances in the UK, Europe, Canada, Australia, and the USA highlight a clash of values, where religious dogma trumps basic compassion and accommodation. These incidents not only deprive the visually impaired and disabled of essential mobility but also spotlight a concerning pattern of Islmaic discrimination.

Despite the glaring evidence, there persists a veil of silence and complicity, particularly in the West. The continued funding and support for bomb-sniffing dogs in Muslim-majority nations, where abuse runs rampant, reflect a troubling contradiction. It underscores a willingness to turn a blind eye to systemic cruelty in the name of diplomatic relations or security interests.

The Animal and Environment Association in Bethlehem rightly condemns such barbarism, affirming that no religion should condone such atrocities against innocent beings.
