In a bizarre display of entitlement, around 200 dancers at the Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony rehearsal on July 22 decided to interrupt their practice with a protest. Raising their fists to the sky, these performers claimed to be fighting against “inequalities in treatment” among the artists. For ten whole minutes, they stood motionless on the Île Saint-Louis near Notre-Dame, disrupting the crucial run-through.
This stunt, filmed and circulated by franceinfo, is the latest drama from the French Union of Performing Artists (SFA-CGT), a notorious left-wing union. They’ve filed a strike notice for July 26, complaining about differences in compensation for recorded performances, with some payments as low as 60 euros while others go up to 1,610 euros. They’re also angry about non-Parisian artists getting travel and housing reimbursements.

Despite the organizers, Paris 2024, ensuring that their service provider, Paname 24, strictly follows legal and collective agreements and even offers higher-than-minimum fees, the union isn’t satisfied. They’ve repeatedly stalled productive dialogue, preferring to make a scene instead of seeking a realistic solution.
