On May 5, 2023, Santiago Abascal, leader of Spain’s VOX party, delivered a powerful speech at CPAC Hungary, one of the largest conservative conferences in Europe. Although he could not physically attend the event due to his commitments to the upcoming regional and local elections in Spain on May 23, Abascal’s presence was felt through his words, which emphasized the importance of unity and action in the face of leftist policies and globalism.
Abascal started by expressing his regret for not being able to attend CPAC Hungary in person, as he had always enjoyed the city’s beauty and hospitality. He then went on to praise the conference for becoming a major venue for European patriots and conservatives, highlighting its importance in strengthening the ties that bind them together.
The VOX leader also drew attention to the upcoming local and regional elections in Spain, stressing their vital importance to the country’s future. Abascal criticized the Spanish government for its leftist policies, which he claimed put the nation’s economy, unity, traditions, freedom, and safety at risk. He called for a good result in the elections to create an alternative that could eradicate the totalitarian policies of the socialists and communists.
Abascal then turned his attention to the broader European context, emphasizing the need for an alternative that looked to the examples set by Hungary, Poland, and Italy. He argued that the path to survival for Europe lay in the Europe of Nations, which prioritized sovereignty, freedom, prosperity, and community over forced federalization, meddling, impositions, and sacrificing industry and agriculture. Abascal also noted that the path of law and order was necessary to counter massive and illegal immigration, which threatened the very foundations of European civilization.
Abascal urged the patriots and conservatives of Europe to unite, work together, and fight for their common cause. He emphasized that only by standing together and offering a credible alternative could they preserve and pass on all the things they loved to their children. Abascal’s speech was a clarion call for action, a rallying cry for all those who believe in the importance of their nations and the survival of their civilization.
