Totalitarian Alert! L.A. Mayor Garcetti Stalks Citizens through Cell Phones; Promises to 'Hunt Down' People who Don't Comply (Video)

Power-hungry tyrant Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is using mobile phone data to track the movement of the citizens of his city, promising to “hunt down” those who refuse to comply with orders to stay indoors during the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, as revealed during an uncritical interview on CNN with Chris Cuomo.

Garcetti declared in part:

”…but this [stay at home order] has been marvelously embraced by 99.9 percent of people; we see it in the traffic data, we see it in the cell phone data; but we’re going to hunt down that last point-one percent and say: ‘you’ve gotta get inside, you gotta cut it out, and you gotta distance…”

An interview posted with Todd S. Purdum at The Atlantic further confirmed that the mini-Mussolini has been “tracking” what he refers to as “movement data”:

“The good news is, I’ve been tracking a lot of [cellphone and other] movement data, and Los Angeles was the county whose individuals were moving the least in all of Southern California.”

The citizens of Los Angeles should demand clarification of Garcetti’s comments. Is he referring to general data or is he actually looking at the cell phone data of individuals?

Additionally, the Mayor has a new program which encourages people to report businesses who do not comply with the Orwellian “Safer at Home Order”:

In addition to the City Attorney’s Neighborhood Prosecutors, the Mayor announced the formation of the ‘Safer at Home’ Business Ambassadors program — which deploys City workers and volunteers with the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team to businesses that appear to be out of compliance with the emergency order with a goal of securing voluntary compliance. If voluntary compliance is not achieved, the ambassadors will share information with the City Attorney and LAPD for follow-up. Members of the public can report out-of-compliance businesses at coronavirus.lacity.org/reportbusinessviolation.

Since the Mayor instituted his “Safer at Home” emergency order, the local government has shut down trails and beaches, declared that the Department of Water and Power “will shut off services for the businesses that don’t comply”, and released hundreds of prisoners, as reported at RAIR Foundation USA.

Creepily, City Attorney Führer Feuer has assigned his “[N]eighborhood Prosecutor team to work with the Los Angeles Police Department to seek compliance and enforce the City’s order when necessary.”

Neighborhood Prosecutor Team?

“In the strongest possible terms, I urge that Angelenos adhere to the ‘Safer at Home’ Order, and non-essential businesses shut their doors,” said City Attorney Feuer. “Those crucial steps protect all of us. As part of the City team, my Office’s Neighborhood Prosecutors will work toward gaining compliance with the Order, helping ensure that our families are safe.”

“We’re all safer at home, and that’s not a suggestion — it is the law,” Mayor Garcetti was quoted as saying when announcing his order. “Refusing to follow it isn’t brave or funny — it’s stupid and could wind up killing you or someone else.”

When Americans do not know their rights, they cannot fight for them. There is nothing remotely Constitutional about tracking citizens through their mobile phones. If unlawful activity is suspected, local officials are welcome to get a warrant. The Fourth Amendment explicitly “prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures.”
