On March 28, 2021, stand up comedian Alexander Lasarev was violently attacked by an Asian cyclist while he was taking part in a peaceful car rally protest in Vancouver, Canada. Police are recommending charges against the Vancouver man.
Lasarev took part in the freedom rally on Saturday afternoon. He was a passenger in a caravan of vehicles who spoke through a bullhorn about concerns over the Canadian government’s coronavirus mandates.
A video posted to social media shows Lasarev telling passersby that they are “doing a great job of complying with the narrative.” Lasarev sarcastically advised onlookers to “always trust the government”, “believe everything in the media”, and “it will be only three more weeks to flatten the curve”. His messages were a form of irony since it’s been over 53 weeks and there are still government lockdowns and suspensions of civil rights in Canada.
As Lasarev was speaking from the vehicle, an Asian cyclist violently attacked him through the car window, striking him repeatedly and attacking the car with his bike. The assailant shattered the car window causing glass to hit Lasarev in his face and body.
“He tries to punch me, he tries to punch my megaphone, he tries to grab the megaphone,” explains Lasarev. “We are free to express our opinion, whether it’s popular or not, that’s what a free country is supposed to be about,” he said.
Witnesses detained the cyclist and police later took him into custody. Watch the following shocking video of the violent attack, which begins around minute 3:00.
Police said they are recommending charges of mischief and assault with a weapon against a 52-year-old Vancouver man. It should be noted that not one Canadian news agency at the time this article was written released the Asian attackers name.
He is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on May 12.
The very few Canadian news outlets who did choose to cover this story expressed more outrage over Lasarev’s questioning of the government’s coronavirus response than the violent attack. Meanwhile, left-wing media and leaders across the west continue to push their strategically concocted left-wing narrative that Anti-Asian hate crimes are on the rise.
