End Times Prophecy: Pope Will Consecrate Russia To Stave Off A World Ending War

Today on March 25, Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary during a penitential prayer service in St. Peter’s Basilica, reports the Vatican.

On this same day, the Vatican said, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, the papal almoner, will carry out a similar consecration at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal.

The idea of the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary initially appeared during the First World War in a vision given to three peasant children in Fatima, Portugal, on July 13th, 1917. In this vision, the children, Jacinta and Lucia (Francisco, the third child, was told the vision, through the two little girls) saw the fires of hell with frightful demons and souls shrieking and groaning in the conflagration. This vision was known as the first part of a three-part Secret, gifted to the children by Our Lady, the Virgin Mary, in 1917.

During the second part of the Secret, the apparition of Mary, the mother of Jesus, told the children,

You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace. The war is going to end; but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the Pontificate of Pius the XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given you by God that he is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine, and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father.

To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart, and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays. If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father [the Pope] will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world…” (Fatima in Lucia’s Own Words; pgs. 108-109, 167)

What is astounding about this July 13, 1917 vision is that it predicts not only the imminent end of the First World War (which occurred on November 11, 1918) but also the coming of a Second World War. Also, though the Pope was Pope Benedict XV at the time of the vision, it specifically prophecizes that Pius XI would be the Pope to shepherd the Holy Roman Catholic Church during this “worse” War (WWII). Though historians typically attribute the start of the Second World War to 1939 during the Pontificate of Pope Pius XII, Sister Lucia notes that the War began with the occupation of Austria in 1938 during the Pontificate of Pope Pius XI.

Furthermore, the central focus on Russia is what gives such significant relevance to modern times. The second part of the Secret explains that Russia “will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The goodwill be martyred, the Holy Father [the Pope] will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated.” The February Revolution of 1917, which overthrew Czar Nicholas II and the Romanov Dynasty, occurred just five months before the vision. However, the Bolshevik Revolution, which began on November 7, 1917, and marked the beginning of Communism in Russia, did not happen yet. The “errors” that Russia would spread throughout the world which would both cause war and persecute the Church is itself Communism (synonymous to Marxism and Socialism). Under Lenin, Stalin, Putin, and their Communist ideology, Christians would be severely persecuted, and wars would be waged, such as the current war in Ukraine.

Interestingly enough, it was the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk in March 1918 that gave up large swaths of the Russian land, including modern-day Ukraine, to the Central Powers (Germany and Austro-Hungaria). This same Treaty officially ended World War I for the Russians. Still, the World War continued for the Allies (of which Russia was a part of before they had to exit due to social upheaval, financial instability, and food shortages because of the War). The Americans entered the War late and assisted the Allied Powers (Britain, France, and Serbia) to ultimate victory. That land Germany had acquired from the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk (including Ukraine) was seized by the remaining Allied powers and given its own autonomous independence apart from Russia.

Prophecies of Russia’s involvement in pivotal wars associated with apocalyptic times are prominent in Biblical literature. Ezekiel’s vision of “Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal” (Ezekiel 38:2) denotes a ruthless leader and his people who gather together an alliance of evil nations to destroy Israel (Ezek. 38:5-9). According to the first-century historian Josephus (see Josephus, Jewish Antiquities 1.123), Magog is associated with the Scythian people who ruled vast regions of lands in Asia north of the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea (modern Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan). Furthermore, Gog is associated as the prince of Rosh, a cognate of the modern word Russia. In Hebrew, the word “Rosh” also denotes the uppermost part of something, the head or the top. Geographically speaking, Russia would be the uppermost part (most northern) of known nations to the ancient Israelites in which this prophecy took place.

Meshech, found in ancient Grecian literature, refers to a people known as the Moschoi, who then settled in an area on the southeast edge of the Black Sea. These people could have easily traveled north into modern-day Russia. The etymological likeness of Moschoi to Moscow, the capital of Russia, can not be overlooked.

Gog, probably the most enigmatic name in this list of ancient names, is often interpreted as either a person or a land. The Hebraic qualifier, “prince of Rosh,” leans more toward Gog being a person. Through Gematria, using the process of adding the nistar (concealed part) of the letters G-O-G (Gimel, Vav, Gimel), you get a numerical value of 146. Surprisingly, the Gematria of Putin (Pe, Vav, Tet, Nun) equals 145. The process of im hateivos allows 1 to be added to Putin, giving both an equal total of 146. Therefore, by allusion, we can make a case for Gog, the prince of Rosh, as Putin himself.

This becomes more significant when we note that among the allies of Magog (Russia) are Persia, Cush, and Put. Persia is modern-day Iran, while Cush is historically associated with Ethiopia and Put with Libya (Ezek. 38:5). In the Ezekiel prophecy, Russia and her allies will rise up against Israel and try to destroy her (Ezek. 38:8, 15-16, 18; 39:4). Therefore, the War against Ukraine can be seen as a precursor for an aggressive Russian nation that will ultimately attempt to invade the jewel of the Middle East, Israel.

The book of Revelation also refers to this end-time prophecy when Saint John the Apostle scribes, “Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea.” (Revelation 20:7b-8)

Perhaps this is why Pope Francis has determined to make a consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in these most perilous times– so that the apocalyptic prophecy might be staved off for a while at least. The consecration itself was attempted by previous Popes but has never been valid. According to the guidelines, the Holy Father, along with all the Catholic Bishops, are supposed to make the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary (the same heart that beats for Jesus) for Russia solely. At various periods of time since the vision at Fatima, the Pope of that generation has made the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, however, invalidly by consecrating the whole world (not Russia exclusively), or by not having all the Bishops present.

If Pope Francis, along with all the Catholic Bishops, correctly consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, it could mean the end of this war with Ukraine. However, Russia will inevitably attempt to invade Israel. As the Lord spoke through Ezekiel, saying, “…In the latter days I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when through you, O Gog, I vindicate my holiness before their eyes” (Ezek. 38:16). God will show the world his might when he uses a nation as vast and powerful as Russia to invade a smaller nation such as Israel (or even Ukraine, whose patron Saint is Saint Michael the Archangel) and have the smaller nation triumph. The same idea was found when God used the Pharaoh and Egypt to glorify His name among the nations when he freed the Israelites from captivity. “‘For by now I [the LORD God] could have put out my hand and struck you and your people [Pharoah and Egypt] with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth. But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power [by destroying Pharoah and Egypt], so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth” (Exodus 9:15-16).

As a result, we must not faint or grow weary at the wars Russia wages physically and ideologically on her apparently weaker victims. In the end, God and his children win. So be courageous and stay bold in the face of all the Goliaths who rage and storm yet are put out with a single pebble of faith. Even in Russia, the believers of Jesus Christ will be saved and consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, while all those who follow Satan’s lust for power and oppression will be laid to waste.
