WATCH EXCLUSIVE VIDEO! (See commentary/transcript below)

I think this is incredibly important to have this kind of communication and hopefully going forward collaboration in this moment of rising global fascism… – Maria Svart, Addressing Global Communist Organizations at the EU Parliament in April 2019

In a RAIR Foundation exclusive video, Maria Svart, head of America’s largest Marxist organization Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) makes key points during a global Marxist gathering held in April 2019 at the EU Parliament in Brussels:

  • Reveals plans to impose socialism in America
  • Claims that there are 56,000 dues-paying DSA members, up from 5,000 a few years ago
  • Brags that seventy-five DSA members hold Local, State and National office
    • There are many more DSA-friendly elected officials
    • Socialists run as Democrats to deceive Americans
  • Reveals how DSA mobilized to push Amazon out of New York
  • Discusses DSA’s alliance with labor unions
  • Explains DSA’s push to get socialists positions as teachers
  • Divulges how DSA members are deliberately infiltrating institutions and political infrastructure

On April 4 2019, America’s top socialists were invited to discuss the future of socialism in America, their glowing endorsement of Bernie Sanders, and “the need for a new progressive internationalism,” as reported at RAIR Foundation USA.

RAIR compiled key comments made during a panel discussion at the gathering by attendee Maria Svart, the head of America’s largest Marxist organization, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), with commentary added for clarity.*

History of DSA

During her presentation, Maria Svart explains the history of DSA, which was formed as an alliance between the radical socialist organization from the 1960’s, “Students for a Democratic Society,” (which also split into the terrorist Weather Underground group) and socialist democrat operatives led by Michael Harrington, whose 1962 book “The Other America” has often been referenced as the inspiration for President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “Great Society” programs, which led to massive government entitlement programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.

If DSA had a “father,” it would be Michael Harrington.

Harrington’s “Why We Need Socialism in America” from 1970 is virtually identical of socialist rhetoric today. Here is a small excerpt:

“AMERICA NEEDS SOCIALISM. Our technology has produced unprecedented wealth, rotted great cities, threatened the very air and water, and embittered races, generations, and social classes.

[…]

“Only a democratic mass movement could challenge this vested interest in our current crises. And it is just possible that the ‘success’ of American capitalism will accomplish what its sweatshops failed to do: make socialism politically relevant.”

The cover on his book, published by the “Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee,” (DSOC) a precursor to DSA, is relevant as it features an image of the father of communism, Karl Marx, yet another illustration that Socialism and Communism are one in the same:

America’s Largest Marxist Organization

Maria Svart explained that DSA has “56,000 dues-paying members” in the United States, up from about 5,000 a few years ago. Further, she claimed that the “youth wing” of DSA, “Young Democratic Socialists of America” (YDSA) is “the only campus organization frankly whether progressive or left-wing that’s capable of standing up to the far right…”

The DSA head distinguishes deliberately between “progressive or left-wing,” using the word “progressive” to mean “socialist:”

“We now have 56,000 dues-paying members so we went from 5,000 to 56,000. We now have instead of a few dozen chapters we have over 200 chapters in every state in the United States… Our youth wing is now the only campus organization frankly whether progressive or left-wing that’s capable of standing up to the far right…

DSA Members in Local/State/National Office

In the video compiled by RAIR, Maria Svart claims that seventy-five dues-paying DSA members are elected officials in local, state, and national office across America:

“We have now – went from a handful, to over 75 members elected to local, state and national office. Obviously you may have heard of the most famous ones Alexandria Ocasio Cortez…

“Also Rashida Tlaib who is in Detroit Michigan. They are both members of DSA but we also have local elected officials in places like Montana, Pennsylvania, Texas and in fact two days ago or this week in Chicago, which is the third largest city in the United States, we now have five members of the City Council…

Communism expert Trevor Loudon provided RAIR Foundation USA with a list of current DSA members currently in office across the country. Trevor previously published a very valuable list of socialists and communists in Congress, and will be shortly publishing a list of socialists and communists in the Senate.

DSA Members Agitated against Amazon coming to New York

Maria Svart revealed how DSA members successfully thwarted Amazon from coming to New York City, an effort infamously touted on Twitter by DSA member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“When Amazon moved to New York City or decided to move to New York City, our chapter mobilized right off of a successful electoral campaign in fact – they had all of their electoral canvassers shift to canvassing against Amazon…

On Feb 14, 2019 AOC praised “everyday New Yorkers and their neighbors” for thwarting Amazon

Svart continues:

And Amazon decided to go – or decided not to come after all because there was so much public pressure – the community was organized against them on many fronts. They don’t want their workers to organize, they were collaborating with ICE, we knew it would gentrify the entire community and bring in high-paying jobs and other people – not actually paid people in the community – so we – we were successful in doing that…

‘an organized base of socialists

Maria Svart explained how DSA cannot work with the Sanders campaign due to their tax status, and is additionally training their socialist members how to do the work currently performed by the “blood-sucking consulting class”. Once Bernie Sanders wins, there will then be “an organized base of socialists in the United States to support Sanders and push Sanders…”

“…we are building our own independent campaign that’s called an ‘Independent Expenditure’ that’s not coordinating at all with the Sanders campaign and we are gonna train all of our members to do the political work independently. This is what we do for local – like political support – it’s how we build the skills and capacity of our members to run campaigns, run candidates, run as candidates, disempower the exploit – not exploitative – the blood-sucking consulting class which is very powerful in the United States – instead build the capacity of our own members to do that. That’s what we’re gonna do with the Sanders campaign and after the election -after we’ve won, we will have an organized base of socialists in the United States to support Sanders and push Sanders[emphasis added]

MARIA SVART TRANSCRIPT

“I think this is incredibly important to have this kind of communication and hopefully going forward collaboration in this moment of rising global fascism…

“I come at all of this as an organizer and so I’ve been in DSA for many years DSA has existed since the early 1980s when we were formed out of a merger of two organizations in the United States. One came out of the student movement of the 60s, the Students for a Democratic Society. Many of their members had gone on to do community organizing and they were an explicitly socialist feminist community-based radical organization and they merged with another organization which was composed of “Democratic – part-Progressive” “Democratic Party Social Democratic” Democratic party operatives and trade union leadership…

“Prior to that we have roots in the Socialist Party of Eugene Debs who was a trade unionist a hundred years ago…

“But it was not until Bernie Sanders ran for president the first time that we really started to grow…

“We did help Bernie raise money to run for the Senate…

“We now have 56,000 dues-paying members so we went from 5,000 to 56,000. We now have instead of a few dozen chapters we have over 200 chapters in every state in the United States… Our youth wing is now the only campus organization frankly whether progressive or left-wing that’s capable of standing up to the far right…

“Now they are a socialist voting bloc on the City Council of Chicago. So it’s very exciting – it completely has changed American politics…

“We have a very “Gramscian strategy” of naming capitalism – challenging – bringing an ideological challenge to this whole system – which is interesting in the United States and until recently we were not taken seriously. Bernie Sanders obviously opened the window significantly more…

“But the other thing that we do is we build chapters rooted in communities or high schools or college campuses…

“Our theory of power is that we need to take state power but also in the course of that we need to build power and other arenas so I always say we have one foot in the electoral political system and then one foot outside the formal political system and that means our chapters do things like run corporate pressure campaigns…

“When Amazon moved to New York City or decided to move to New York City, our chapter mobilized right off of a successful electoral campaign in fact – they had all of their electoral canvassers shift to canvassing against Amazon…

“And Amazon decided to go – or decided not to come after all because there was so much public pressure – the community was organized against them on many fronts. They don’t want their workers to organize, they were collaborating with ICE, we knew it would gentrify the entire community and bring in high-paying jobs and other people – not actually paid people in the community – so we – we were successful in doing that and it really illustrates the kind of work that we do where some of its political and some of it is not. And then the third arena in which we do work is the trade union movement…

And in 2018 there was a huge uptick of strike activity in the United States. A big part of that had to do with the fact that there were mass strikes in the public education sector although also other – other arenas…

“It’s been a really exciting year, DSA members are teachers and we have a whole program to help members become teachers and help members in other sectors figure out how to organize their workplaces and members support striking workers – so the labor movement is another huge part of the work that we do…

“We’re out canvassing in our communities, maybe working on rent control or something – or maybe working on an election – but we’re out there building an organized base… That’s why we need to build infrastructure to coordinate with each other we need there has to be a unified left message that reframes the conversation…

“We’re trying to capture the hearts and minds of the population and also take over the institutions…

“DSA – we’re building – the way that we’re supporting Bernie Sanders is we’re doing an independent campaign. The way the U.S. political system works – the kind of organization we are – the tax status that we are – we cannot spend very much money and directly coordinate with the Sanders campaign and rather than send all of our people just to go volunteer for Sanders we are building our own independent campaign that’s called an “Independent Expenditure” that’s not coordinating at all with the Sanders campaign and we are gonna train all of our members to do the political work independently. This is what we do for local – like political support – it’s how we build the skills and capacity of our members to run campaigns, run candidates, run as candidates, disempower the exploit – not exploitative – the blood-sucking consulting class which is very powerful in the United States – instead build the capacity of our own members to do that. That’s what we’re gonna do with the Sanders campaign and after the election -after we’ve won, we will have an organized base of socialists in the United States to support Sanders and push Sanders… We will be working with labor for Bernie, which was the constellation of unions that supported Bernie and also union members in unions that did not support Bernie in the last cycle… Several unions have been involved in campaigns to increase for example the minimum wage to $15 an hour and a lot of municipalities and have also been able to target major employers like Walmart to change their conditions…

“I think one of the solutions is to create our own media. The company that produced AOC’s campaign ad which is so famous – she wrote the script, but they filmed and produced it, is a couple – literally a married couple that are DSA members – it’s called “Seize the Means” is their production company and they’re launching a new thing called “Means TV” and the idea is to provide a counter to all the right-wing – you know – short video clips that they’re always using to frame what’s happening in current events…

“You know we’ve seen there are exciting developments, like there’s a magazine called Teen Vogue which has been shockingly having all of this left-wing – like every week there’s some new left-wing article that they have and part of that is because Bernie Sanders and organizations like DSA are normalizing socialism…

“We were able to have a big impact – not alone – but we had a big impact on the discourse by strategically using social media…

“And luckily Bernie Sanders’ supporters are – tend to – like his highest levels of support are among young people, people of color and working-class people – and this is precisely who we are working to organize… The way that we’re preparing for what happens whether – the way that we’re gonna fight Trump and the way we’re gonna be prepared if Bernie doesn’t win – is that we just have to keep fighting and building you know supporting unions, supporting worker -organizing, building our own base…

“And we as socialists have to use new media and we have to use organizing…

  • The Good Comrads (TM) are very sure of winning and it is nice that they are finally coming out of the woodwork for all to see. They think that once in power they will stay in power; not for long. If/when the real communists take over the socialists and camp followers will be among the first to be dealt with. The hard-core communists are quite good and house-cleaning and there will be cries of surprise when the useful idiots will be taken away.

  • Oh good Lord. The fact that this group even believes for one second that Bernie Sanders has a shot in hell to beat Trump is laughable. Socialism is pure evil. Elites in charge of the slaves. Yep, thats what all us middle class Americans are down for!

  • Joseph Stalin who described fascism and social democracy as “twin brothers”, arguing that fascism depends on the active support of the social democracy and that the social democracy depends on the active support of fascism. After it was declared at the Sixth Congress, the theory of social fascism became accepted by the world communist movement….

  • At least we know more about the enemy to our Democratic Republic. Watch out for these despots, they do not love liberty and freedom, only power and subjugation!!

  • Its disturbing to even think that this country could become a socialist country. And those who are instigating it do not seem to be very bright.

  • Why would anyone want to help destroy their own country? I mean these democrats are willing and at times go out of their way to promote islam in the USA. I see a time in the future when all this will come to a head. Nothing good will come out of it. As for me I’m middle aged and hope to be dead by then, but I fear my children and family will have a tough time dealing with this fact and Muslims hell bent on killing infidels. I just don’t get it.
