One man was killed and another injured after they were hit by a pickup truck at the Stonewall Pride Parade in Wilton Manors, Florida over the weekend. Before he had the facts, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, a witness, claimed that the evident accident was a “terrorist attack against the LGBT community”.
The Democrat mayor declared with zero information that the driver “was here to cause trouble. You could see it in his face.” The statement was particularly egregious because a mayor holds a position of trust.
The circumstances are reminiscent of a horrific incident in Canada, which has also been prematurely designated as a terror attack by prominent left-wing politicians including Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar. In that case, a 20-year-old man ran his pick-up truck onto a curb and into a Muslim family, killing four and injuring one. As reported at RAIR Foundation USA, Nathaniel Veltman’s co-worker stated that the young man “was having trouble with the steering of his new truck.”
“This killing was no accident. This was a terrorist attack,” Canada’s left-wing prime minister Justin Trudeau declared. How can Nathaniel Veltman receive a fair trial?
Watch a local report featuring Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis:
The mayor said on the video:
“It’s terrible, they are laying on the ground. This is clearly a terrorist attack against the LGBT community. This is disgusting. This is – we’re fearful of our lives. We don’t know what’s going on in the rest of the street. Just didn’t look like he was here to – uh – have a parade. He was here to cause trouble. You could see it in his face. You can see when they pulled – when they threw him into the car and…took him away.”
Trantalis was also quoted by the local news as saying:
“This is a terrorist attack against the LGBT community. This is exactly what it is. Hardly an accident. It was deliberate, it was premeditated, and it was targeted against a specific person. Luckily they missed that person, but unfortunately, they hit two other people.”
See footage of runaway truck:
It was clear from the beginning that the driver was a participant in the parade. He was wearing a Pride shirt and had pride flags on his truck. He is a member of the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus. But Mayor Dean Trantalis and many other irresponsible leftist activists could not resist the opportunity to exploit a tragic accident in order to promote their perceived victimhood.
As observed at RAIR,
Like all such allegations of ‘rising’ hate crimes, outliers are used to condemn the entire population, taking away responsibility from the comparatively minute number of individuals who engage in biased criminal activity.”
So-called hate crimes are exploited by left-wing activists to further a political narrative. The hate crime designation elevates certain victims, ignores others and rips off the blindfold of America’s long tradition of “blind justice.” Hate crimes, as promoted by the left, are so rare that they are often fabricated.
