North Dakota: Courts Enabled Violent Career Criminal Ahmed Mohamed Abdullahi to Murder Young Mother

If North Dakota courts properly sentenced Abdullahi for crimes he had committed months and years before the murder, Megan Gustafson would be alive.

On September 12, 2001, twenty-six-year-old Ahmed Mohamed Abdullahi shot and killed Megan Lea Gustafson at her home in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Moments before the 28-year-old mother was killed, she turned away help from police officers. Despite Abdullahi’s lengthy violent criminal record, a court reduced his latest federal charge from earlier this year to a misdemeanor, allowing him to avoid prison time and giving him the opportunity Megan.

The victim would still be alive if Abdullahi, who reportedly came to the United States from Somalia as an asylum seeker, was held accountable for his past crimes.

Grand Forks Police responded to a 911 call reporting a suspicious person at a residence just after 1:30 a.m. The police were investigating whether the Abdullahi was part of an armed robbery that had taken place at a nearby gas station earlier that morning.

The officers knocked on the door of the home, and Megan opened the door. After they spoke with her, officers began walking away. Court documents state that shortly thereafter, they heard an argument coming from inside the home.

Court documents say officers saw the door open;

“Gustafson was standing in the doorway with her back toward the street and Abdullahi was facing her. Officers heard a single gunshot, heard Gustafson scream, and then saw her run into the lawn and fall to the ground.”

Abdullahi then walked out of the apartment holding a 9 mm Taurus handgun reported stolen from a vehicle in Grand Forks in September 2020.

Police say Gustafson was shot in the chin and neck area. Despite the attempts to save her life, the young mother later died at Altru Hospital. It is believed that Megan’s 9-year-old daughter Olivia was in the home during her murder.

The victim is survived by her beloved daughter, brother, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. The family is heartbroken over the loss of their loved one, who they described in her obituary,

Megan enjoyed spending time with her friends, time at the lake, driving the golf cart, listening to music, and going for bike rides. Megan’s favorite moments were spent with her daughter, Olivia. Together, they enjoyed going to the park, playing games, reading, singing and dancing to music, and even cuddling while watching movies. Megan loved Olivia more than anything in the world! She always tried to make people feel better, usually with her sense of humor and quick-witted attitude. She was a kind and generous woman with a beautiful smile and infectious laugh; she will be missed by so many who love her dearly.

Megan Would Be Alive If Abdullahi Was Held Responsible for Prior Crimes

March 12, 2021 Crime

Abdullahi pleaded guilty to “terrorizing an adult victim” in July 2021. He was originally arrested on March 12, 2021.

The court initially charged Abdullahi with a Class C felony which carries a minimum sentence of 1 year and a maximum sentence of 5 years. However, District Court judge, Jason McCarthy, accepted Abdullahi’s plea agreement and reduced the charge from a felony to a misdemeanor. As a result, the court did not impose a prison sentence. Instead of prison, he received 2 year-supervised probation and was not allowed to possess a firearm or enter Rumors Sports Bar, Grill, and Casino in North Dakota.

Media Blackout

America’s open border policies and failed judicial system have resulted in another little girl growing up without her mother. So why isn’t the mainstream media reporting honestly on this tragic and avoidable murder?

Abdullahi was a career criminal who, despite his many crimes, was continuously given leniency and set free by North Dakota’s judges. So why are mainstream media outlets not reporting on Abdullahi’s list of crimes? Why did North Dakota not imprison Abdullahi after his latest felony conviction? If Megan Lea Gustafson was a Somali refugee and her killer was a white Trump supporter, would this case garnish national attention? Why doesn’t Megan Lea Gustafson’s life matter to the left-wing media?

  • Ok, important news, but most important news is:
Why is that idiot puppet “president” (what a joke!) still in power?
    WHY?

  • She’s holding a mixed-race child, so presumably the Somali who killed her is also the father of the child — assuming so, she was a very foolish woman who made very bad choices — a product of America’s abdication of public mores.

    Sad.

      • Thanks for the info.

Elsewhere I saw a link to her Facebook page, and, well, my main point, which others express far more harshly (and with more vulgarity as well as zero sympathy for the victim) still stands: a foolish young woman who had been making very bad choices for a very long time, and continued to do so right up until the very end — I understand that even on the nite of her murder she turned away cops who knocked on her door (presumably she did this to protect her future murderer, who was in the residence, from arrest).

        • As more details come to light on this case, I will update the article. But, unfortunately, an innocent little girl has lost her mother, and a beautiful young woman has lost her life. Thanks for reading the article – Amy

  • Gad…these low lives are in every state. And Biden/ Harris are planning on bringing 100,000 afghans in along with the 125,000 other mostly Muslim refugees already allowed. That’s along with the approximately 1.6 million who’ve come in thru the southern border. And forget the amnesty planned for 8 million illegals who are already here. 1 timid Republican put forth an amendment to at least not let gang members and those who already had committed serious crimes to be given amnesty….but oh noooo the Dems couldn’t have that, shot it down right away…….Elections have consequences…big time. Oh, for the good ole days of mean tweets.

  • I think it should be automatic minimum life behind bars and hard labor if any refugees that aren’t legal citizens of the USA face prison time and absolutely no chance for parole of crimes they committed then lobby our congress and senators to pass a law no illegal refugee will be able to have in their possession any firearms or weapons manufactured or homemade and very thorough background checks, this is a prime example why we legal citizens need open carry laws and guns at our disposal to get this crap off the streets
