Leftists Celebrate: Cop Killing Black Panther Anthony Bottom Released from Prison

Police officers Waverly Jones and Joseph Piagentini were ambushed and shot in the back.

Black Panther Anthony Bottom, who changed his name to Jalil Abdul Muntaqim, was released from prison 49 years after murdering police officers Waverly Jones and Joseph Piagentini.

In 2019, Bottom told New Yorker journalist Daniel A. Gross that he is “one of the longest-held political prisoners in the United States.” The introduction, Gross explained, is “in the tradition of incarcerated Black Panthers.” Like his supporters, Bottom evidently forgot that he murdered two innocent human beings. Because of Anthony Bottom, five children grew up without a father.

Now, Bottom is free. Left-wing activists are celebrating his release. The mainstream media is downplaying the cowardly murders.

Anthony Bottom, along with Albert Washington (who died in prison) and Herman Bell (who was paroled), shot the patrolmen in the back on May 21, 1971 as they were ambushed while responded to a fake call at housing project in Harlem.

The murder was premeditated. The members of the Black Liberation Army, a “group that had splintered off from the Black Panther Party” stole their weapons which they used to “finish off the two cops“.

An excerpt of  former district attorney Robert K. Tanenbaum’s book “Badge of the Assassin” describes the scene. While Wavery Jones was killed instantly…

Piagentini lived long enough to beg for his life — before he was riddled with twenty-two bullet holes by members of a deadly hit squad hell-bent on taking out the men and women of law enforcement.

Two days before the murders, the New York Times received a letter that said:

Here are the license plates sort [sic] after by the fascist state pig police. We send them in order to exhibit the potential power of oppressed people to acquire revolutionary justice. The armed goons of this racist government will again meet the guns of oppressed Third World peoples as long as they occupy our community and murder our brothers and sisters in the name of American law and order; just as the fascist marines and army [who] occupy Vietnam in the name of democracy and murder Vietnamese people in the name of American imperialism are confronted with the guns of the Vietnamese Liberation Army, the domestic armed forces of racism and oppression will be confronted with the guns of the Black Liberation Army, who will met [sic] out in the tradition of Malcolm and all true revolutionaries real justice. We are Revolutionary Justice.

Bottom, who converted to Islam in prison, was described as “a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a mentor, a scholar, a several-times-over published author and a faith leader” by Adria R. Walker of the Democrat and Chronicle.

As reported at RAIR Foundation USA, the left embraces terrorists.

“During this period of his life,” Walker explained, “police shootings of young Black men were frequent.” Walker’s statement lacks context, of course, and seemingly excuses the vicious murders of two police officers.

A now-removed website clamoring for Bottom’s release featured a 2002 video of the cop-killer explaining in part that he was a “Marxist-Leninist” before converting to Islam:

Radical Attorney

Bottom’s attorney Nora Carroll, a member of the radical left National Lawyers Guild, praised her client for “an exemplary prison record.” She continued to say that Bottom “has expressed sincere remorse for the crime he committed, and poses no threat to the community.” It is difficult to fathom that the man who referred to himself as a “political prisoner” a mere two years ago is not expressing “sincere remorse” for his crimes.

Carroll she serves on the National Lawyers Guild’s “Anti-Racism Committee, Mass Incarceration Committee, [and the] Parole Preparation Project”, according to her LinkedIn account.

Anthony Bottom’s first appearance after his release was on a show called “Renegade Culture” featured at the Black Power Media’s YouTube page. The interview painted Bottom, of course, as a “political prisoner:”
