Patriots Protect Christopher Columbus Statue in Spain: 'We are Here to Defend Our History' (Watch)

Spain’s Vox political party, along with hundreds of supporters carrying Spanish and Catalan flags, formed a human chain around the Christopher Columbus statue in Barcelona on June 27 to defend against attacks by left-wing radicals and their political parties. VOX is the “Make Spain Great Again Party” that defends traditional Spanish values and has a Trump-like populist message.

“We are here to defend our history, to defend Spain and to defend Hispanic culture” said Vox Barcelona’s deputy secretary for institutional relations, Juan Carlos Segura after left-wing parties such as En Comú Podem and the CUP (Popular Unity Candidacy) suggested removing them.

Spanish philosopher George Santayana famously said “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Indeed, the ongoing war against history is part of a clear coordinated effort to dismantle Western Civilization. Effectively scrubbing the lessons of the past empowers the enemies of freedom to rewrite history for younger generations. 

In his inspiring speech, Segura explains that Vox seeks to “defend our history, to defend Spain, and to defend Hispanic culture.” He asserts that the reason for the attacks on the Columbus statue are not about Columbus, but is because “Columbus represents our history.”

“Precisely for this reason they want to take away this statue of Columbus, because Columbus represents our history.” Segura powerfully proclaims that the left embodies “hatred,” while the “project of Hispanic culture” is a “project of love and brotherhood a project of risk that a few brave men undertook backed by a daring kingdom, and with the desire to extend their language, their faith, and their civilization.”

“Because of this, in Latin America, the Americans had the same rights as Spaniards, and because of that, we are pioneers in human rights,” Segura said. “We are proud of our history, and we will not permit them to tear down the statue of Columbus.”

“Before the statue of Columbus falls, The government of [Ada] Colau [mayor of Barcelona] and the Socialists will fall,” said the deputy secretary.

The night after VOX’s patriotic rally, the statue of Columbus was set on fire in Barcelona by a left-wing anarchist group called El barri resisteix. The statue was also desecrated with hateful messages. A witness alerted emergency services who were able to put out the fire before the statue was decimated.

El barri resisteix distributed message on its website bragging and claiming responsibility for the fires, as well as publishing various videos of the attackers screaming, “Racist colonies” “Death to Spain” “Racismo” “Racist Catalunya”.

The statue of Columbus has been the object of a vandalism attack with responsibility claimed 
by the group “The neighborhood resists”.


The perpetrators of the act tried to set fire to the monument, but the emergency services 
arrived before the fire caused major damage.

Several vehicles of the Urban Guard cleared the area without injuries while they put out the flames.

and with the desire to extend their language, their faith, and their civilization.

Because of this, in Latin America, the Americans had the same rights as Spaniards, and because 
of that, we are pioneers in human rights. We are proud of our history, and we will not permit 
them to tear down the statue of Columbus.
